The Southend Public Garden Society in Sydney, Nova Scotia has placed Busy Bee Boxes in the Southend Garden which provide access to a variety of recreation and play items like balls, skipping ropes, frisbees, snow moulds, spike ball, chalk, and washer toss. These items are stored in large outdoor, anchored boxes that are accessible to community members, particularly children and youth. They aim to improve free and creative outdoor play in a community green space and reduce barriers to accessing equipment.
“Helper Bee Boxes” full of garden tools are also being added so children can help local adults weed and work on the pollinator garden. Additionally, a series of tree stumps were added for seating and a fire pit for community gatherings.
