SickKids, MCFST and researchers from FIFSW have released a Call to Action – as Ontario begins to rebuild and recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, immediate action needs to be taken to prioritize children’s optimal health and development. Ontario cannot afford to ignore the increasing consequences of pandemic restrictions on the health and well-being of children and youth.
This report includes recommendations for provincial and municipal governments; educators and school, child care and early learning centre administrators; community programming organizations and staff; public health professionals and health-care providers; and parents/caregivers, children and youth. Some of these recommendations include the promotion of outdoor public spaces like parks and playgrounds, ensuring equitable access to physical activities and outdoor space for children with special needs and health conditions, incorporating more outdoor physical activity into daily school and child-care lessons and many more.
