About This Project

Undercurrent Youth Centre on Cape Breton Island runs a variety of outdoor activities for youth in the summer, although many programs have been disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their regular schedule includes a weekly hike day for junior and senior high students; a weekly Skateboarding School Program at two skateparks; weekly kids programs and outings including walks, beach days, wildlife parks, etc.; and several camping trips in which youth participate in activities such as canoeing, kayaking, and outdoor adventures.

Additionally, throughout the year they run 20+ weekly programs for youth, most of which are indoors but also include some outdoor activities like hiking and snowshoeing. The goal of this program is to help break children and youth out of the cycles of poverty and addiction by developing new interests, skills, opportunities, and healthy alternatives. They want to introduce as many youth as possible to healthy activities.
