Thank you to Hanah and Emily with Compass Early Learning & Care for providing this post!
This fall Compass Early Learning & Care will be hosting a two-day outdoor institute to slow down and reflect on what the land teaches us about care and connection.
Hear from keynote speakers Anne Marie Coughlin and Grandmother Kim Wheatley who will explore what becomes possible when we pay closer attention to the living world we are part of. At a time when early childhood education is often shaped by speed, pressure, and expectation, the rhythms of the earth invite a different way of thinking – one grounded in slowness, relationship, and responsiveness.
These two days will create space to slow down, notice more deeply and reimagine your work in ways that are more connected, sustainable and alive to the world we are living in.
Enjoy delicious local food, situated in a beautiful outdoor setting for two days. (Optional evening study tour on the evening of September 16 to visit some of our organization’s outdoor programs).
Engage in reflective practice to consider how to move your program more outdoors through:
- Keynote
- Elder offerings
- Plant walk
- Getting to know your community
- Educator stories
- Sit/listening spot / sensory experiences
- Navigating licensing & barriers
- Practice and play
- Attend podcast recording of Little Big Ideas
- Study tour (optional)
