Coronavirus in the media: Should you let your children play with other children?

On March 18, 2020, BBC News wrote an article entitled ‘Coronavirus: Should you let your children play with other children?’.

In the article, journalist Robin Levinson-King, from Toronto, Ontario, describes how families are wrestling with whether or not they should let their children play with others given recommendations on physical distancing. Dr. Angela Pyle, an assistant professor at the University of Toronto Institute for Studies in Education says it is important to support children in play, but also recommends avoiding places like parks where people congregate.

Similar questions have arose elsewhere in Canada. For example, in a May 2020 article for CityNews 1130 Vancouver, journalist Kelvin Gawley asked a similar question. Citing the OPC position statement ‘Should I go Outside in the COVID-19 Era‘, Gawley highlighted the benefits of getting kids outdoors, while adhering to physical distancing recommendations.
